York Technical College Awarded Annual D2L Excellence Award

We are proud to announce that York Technical College received the 2023 Annual D2L Excellence Award. This award is given by the Desire2Learn (D2L) Corporation, who provides an e-learning management system and serves over 1,000 organizations across 40 countries. Only five D2L Excellence Awards are given out each year.

Our Institute of Teaching Excellence (ITE) team manages the platform for York Technical College, and it is through their work that the College could receive this prestigious award. The ITE team successfully optimized the use of the College’s D2L system for students, faculty and staff, leading to groundbreaking advancements for York Technical College.

A few of the advancements include:

• Significant improvements to the College’s online course options and designs. Students gained a more accessible and inclusive learning environment through greater flexible online course options with more engaging materials.
• The integration of D2L with another software to greatly improve our registration and deregistration process, reducing the previous six-to-twelve -hour lag in student registration, deregistration and course creation process to one hour.
• The creation of new asynchronous and on-demand professional development opportunities for faculty, assuring our students are receiving the best education possible.
• These integrations, and others not listed, increased York Technical College’s overall course accessibility score to 90%. This is a 10% jump from the 2021-2022 year.
