Furthering your education can seem overwhelming, but the TRIO Programs at York Technical
College ease the transition from high school to college, transfer to a senior institution,
or enter the workforce by providing the support students often need.
We offer various free services and programs to help students achieve their academic,
career, and personal goals while confronting the challenges of completing a college
degree.
About TRIO
We have two TRIO programs at YTC: the PROMISE Program and STEM Scholars. Both are
TRIO Student Support Services projects (SSS). SSS is one of seven federally funded
programs known collectively as TRIO Programs. All TRIO Programs are authorized and funded through Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and administered by the US Department of Education.
SSS has been in operation at York Tech since 1978. The program was renamed PROMISE to coincide with its goals and objectives. PROMISE stands for Providing Resources, Opportunities, and Motivation to Improve Student Endeavors. PROMISE serves students pursuing programs within Business Computers, Arts
and Sciences, and Human Services programs.
In 2015, YTC was awarded an additional SSS project called STEM Scholars, which serves students pursuing STEM and allied health programs within the Industrial
and Engineering Technology and Health Science divisions.
The vision of both the PROMISE and STEM Scholars Programs is to provide its participants
with the tools necessary for their success.
The mission of both the PROMISE and STEM Scholars Programs is to continuously strive
