How We Pursue Experiential Learning
Our dedication to experiential learning is reflected in the wide array of opportunities
and programs we offer. Here are some of the ways we ensure students benefit from this
impactful educational approach:
Work-Based Learning Opportunities
- We work closely with industry partners and local businesses to provide students with
internship and apprenticeship opportunities as well as clinical and other work-based learning experiences. These
opportunities allow students to immerse themselves in professional environments, gain
hands-on experience, and build networks that will benefit them in their careers. Furthermore,
Career Services provides student assistance with job searches, including the preparation of job search
documentation and interview coaching.

Service-Learning and Community Engagement
- Our service-learning programs integrate community service with academic coursework,
addressing real-world challenges while enriching the learning experience. Examples
of service learning and community engagement expand out into a variety of Clubs and Organizations, including our International Honor Society chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, which organizes
and participates in multiple community events each year. Students participating in
these opportunities make a meaningful impact, developing empathy and civic responsibility.

SkillsUSA
- SkillsUSA seeks to empower students to become skilled professionals and career-ready
leaders. Membership is open to all students in industrial, STEM, or health science
programs. SkillsUSA allows students to compete at a state and national level, creating a space for them to showcase their knowledge in front of industry leaders
and develop a professional network. Students from York Tech have won at both the state
and national levels in their respective skills competitions.

Campus-Based Experiential Learning
- From general education to workforce and economic development classes, project-based
learning to lab experiments to career simulators, there are countless ways for students
to engage hands-on with their interests and/or cognitively explore real-world scenarios
pertinent to fields of study.

Reflective Practice
- Reflection is at the heart of experiential learning. We encourage students to document
and analyze their experiences through journals, portfolios, and guided discussions.
This process helps students connect their practical experiences with academic theories,
enhancing their understanding and personal growth.
