Located in the Learning Commons, the ACT provides free subject-specific tutoring and
academic coaching to all currently enrolled York Tech students. Tutoring and coaching
services are provided both in-person and online. In-person appointments are scheduled
via Navigate. Walk-in appointments are based on tutor availability.
- Subject-specific tutoring is offered in-person for specific YTC courses by YTC-trained tutors. Online tutoring
for specific subjects is provided by Tutor.com and is available on-demand and by appointment
subject to Tutor.com’s schedule.
- Academic coaching is offered in-person. Academic coaches help students acclimate to college and develop
success strategies. These one-on-one meetings are tailored to each student’s specific
needs including how to navigate required technology, understand course expectations,
develop organizational skills, identify effective study strategies, and more!

Located in the Learning Commons in L-191, the WSC is an extension of the Academic
Coaching & Tutoring Center. It provides comprehensive writing support through collaborative
engagement that builds confidence, strengthens writing proficiency, and empowers students
to make informed, effective choices in their writing process. The goal of the WSC
is to help students become confident, capable writers.
WSC Services
- Assist with any stage of the writing process
- Exploring topics and organizing ideas
- Reviewing drafts
- Incorporating research and finalizing drafts
- Assist with various writing assignments: essays, business communications and reports,
speech outlines, career documents.
- Provide targeted support based on student’s self-assessment.
- Provide relevant examples to model academic writing.
Writing coaches will not proof-read, edit, or revise student writing.
WSC In-Person: Appointments are blocked for one hour and scheduled via Navigate. Walk-ins are based
on writing coaches’ availability.
WSC Online: After self-registering for the Writing Success Center course in D2L, students can
submit their drafts to the Dropbox and receive feedback within 24-48 hours (excluding
weekends).

Supplemental Instruction at York Tech is an academic support program where tutoring
is provided as a lab component of specific courses. SI labs are a requirement of the
course and are held either right before or after the instructor-led class meeting.
SI leaders may attend the class meeting so that they observe the lecture and plan
their SI lessons to coordinate with that day’s content.
Math Supplemental Instruction sessions vary based upon course modality:
- Hybrid/In-Person Sessions
- In-person, on-campus sessions.
- 40-minute sessions conducted either before or after instructor-led course lecture.
- Face-to-face interactive forum where students can get additional help and assistance
with material delivered during the class lecture.
- Web Sessions
- Online virtual video sessions conducted before or after instructor led course lecture.
- 1 hour and 45-minute sessions conducted through Kaltura within D2L.
- Virtual face-to-face interactive forum where students can get additional help and
assistance with material delivered during their virtual class lecture.
- Internet Sessions
- Discussion Board driven
- Dialogue between student and SI Leader conducted through the D2L Discussion Board.
Discussion topics are based on assigned activities from the course Instructor.
- Online forum where students can interact with the SI leader via Discussion Board and
get additional help and assistance with material delivered in the online lecture.
