SC WINS is a statewide technical college scholarship program designed to address workforce
shortages in South Carolina.The scholarship covers any remaining tuition and instructional course fees left after
applying all other scholarships or grants.
Recipients may receive up to $5000 per academic year!
Programs
Students enrolled in career and technical programs at York Technical College are eligible
for the SC WINS Scholarship. Students enrolled in University Transfer AA and AS programs,
as well as personal interest non-credit courses, are not eligible for SC WINS. Students can receive the SC WINS for only one certificate, diploma or degree unless
the additional certificate, diploma or degree constitutes progress in the same field
of study.
This form will be sent to the student once they have been awarded.
GPA/Continued Eligibility
All credit-seeking students must maintain a 2.0 GPA each academic year.
Covered Expenses
Recipients can receive up to $5,000 per academic year after applying all other scholarships
or grants. The scholarship may cover the cost of tuition and instructional course
fees. *Course materials, text, uniforms, and tools are not covered by SC WINS.
Frequently Asked Questions
For the past three years, the College has been able to cover most or all tuition costs,
program fees, textbooks, and other required class materials through generous support
from the State of South Carolina and the York Technical College Foundation.
The types of aid provided by the state and the York Technical College Foundation have
changed over the past three years. The state aid available to students will be the
LIFE Scholarship, Palmetto Fellows, South Carolina Needs Based Grant, Lottery Tuition
Assistance and the South Carolina Workforce Industry Needs Scholarship (SC WINS).
York Technical College will continue to offer scholarships, grants, and loans to keep
our education accessible and affordable.
While many students may continue to receive federal and state aid that fully covers
their tuition, students will need to plan how to cover any remaining tuition and fees
that are not covered by aid. These costs can be covered by other alternative means,
including loans, York Technical College Foundation Scholarships, or payment plans.
York Technical College remains dedicated to providing financial assistance to our
students through grants, scholarships, and other funding opportunities. We strongly
encourage students to submit their FAFSA and all required documents and apply for
scholarships.
The 2024-2025 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required for all
students looking to utilize any type of financial aid. Depending on what aid a student
is eligible for, federal and state aid may cover all costs of tuition and fees.
Students enrolled in credit programs that are not eligible for federal funding (Pell
Grant, FSEOG, Work Study, and Student Loans) will need to complete a FAFSA Waiver.
Information for Students in Non-Credit Programs
Students enrolled in non-credit programs through our Workforce and Economic Development
(WED) area will be given additional guidance for next steps.
Students enrolled in 6 or more hours may be eligible for Lottery Tuition Assistance.
Students who are in career and technical programs may be eligible for SC WINS (see
below for more info). Students in the University Transfer Associate of Arts and Associate
of Science programs, as well as the University Studies certificate, are not eligible
for SC WINS.
All students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be

Foundation scholarships will be applied to any remaining balance after all other aid

to go towards the cost of tuition and instructional course fees after applying all
other scholarships or grants. SC WINS does not cover course materials, textbooks, uniforms, tools, or other general student fees.
Any remaining balance due after any aid is applied will be the responsibility of the
student. Students enrolled in a transfer program, such as the University Transfer Associate
in Arts or Associate in Science, as well as University Studies, are not eligible to
receive SC Wins. Non-credit personal interest courses, are also not eligible to receive
SC WINS.
In order to be eligible for SC WINS, you must be a South Carolina resident, successfully
submit your college admissions application, submit the FAFSA and all required documents,
and enroll in a career and technical program. You must complete the SC WINS affidavit, which will be sent to students once they’ve been awarded aid. For more information on eligibility, contact our Financial Aid Office.
The scholarship was created to address critical workforce shortages in South Carolina
in industries such as Healthcare, Construction, Manufacturing, and Transportation.
At this time, University Transfer Associate of Arts and Associate of Science programs are not included in the scholarship,
though those students may be eligible for other aid. All students should submit the FAFSA to ensure they receive any federal aid and grants they are eligible for. They
should also be sure to submit the scholarship application through the York Technical
College Foundation.
All career and technical program are eligible for SC WINS. This includes non-credit
courses, except for personal interest courses (i.e. cooking classes).
Students enrolled in career or technical programs will receive up to $5,000 per academic
year to go towards tuition and instructional course fees. In many instances, this will cover the entirety of tuition for students. The
scholarship does not cover course materials, textbooks, uniforms, tools, or other
general student fees.

Grants, loans, and scholarships through the Financial Aid Office, including SC WINS,
Lottery Tuition Assistance, do not require a separate application. However, you must
submit your FAFSA application, including all required documents, and successfully
submit your application for York Technical College.

Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for SC WINS.
If you have a completed FAFSA and have submitted all required documentation, financial aid awards will be posted prior to the start of the Fall 2024 term.
