York Technical College and Rock Hill Housing Authority Launch YouthBuild Program
York Technical College has joined forces with the Rock Hill Housing Authority (RHHA)
to create a YouthBuild program. The YouthBuild program is an innovative approach to
education for people ages 16-24 and specifically targets individuals who have fallen
out of the education system or did not complete their high school diploma.
YouthBuild focuses on GED attainment, hands-on experience and industry recognized credentialing leading to in-demand employment and self-sufficiency. Individuals who join this program will not only earn their GED, but they will earn additional professional certifications, and choose a career pathway to launch their future.
Specialized education pathways include:
- HVAC & Plumbing
- Carpentry
- Electrical
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Each construction pathway will prepare students to install and repair residential
HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical wiring. The CNA pathway will prepare students
for a career in healthcare.
RHHA will provide a structured, supportive, and individualized academic program that addresses the needs of opportunity youth who have previously disengaged from traditional education systems. Academic instruction is delivered through a combination of classroom-based learning, technology-enhanced instruction, individualized support, and contextualized learning aligned with construction and workforce training.
York Technical College supports post-secondary transition through academic advising, enrollment assistance, financial aid navigation, and access to certificate and training programs aligned with construction, healthcare, and other in-demand industries.
All YouthBuild participants, regardless of training pathway, receive structured employment placement assistance and transition support. The program supports participants in securing unsubsidized employment, registered apprenticeships, or enrollment in post-secondary education or advanced training programs aligned with their career goals. RHHA provides uniform follow-up services for a minimum of twelve months following program exit to support employment and education retention, career advancement, and long-term success.
