Cannon Charitable Trust Awards York Technical College Foundation $200,000
The York Technical College Foundation, Inc. has received a major grant award from the Charles A. Cannon Charitable Trust. Two buildings located on the main campus of YTC will receive repairs thanks to the $200,000 award. The Baxter M. Hood Center (Building N) and the Science and Technology Building (Building ST) will have significant roof repairs made to address damages from leaks and to prevent safety risks from developing.
Building N currently houses the College library and tutoring center. The Building ST is home to the teleproduction program, classrooms, science labs and ETV Carolinas.
“The funds we receive from Cannon will help us to take care of a critical need that we have at the College,” said Robby Brown, the director of facilities management at York Tech.” “Most people won’t see it, they’ll never know the roof got replaced, they’ll never know the façade got repaired, but these upgrades are needed for the College to continue to function in a safe manner.”
Building N will have its existing mechanical roof system removed and a new system will be installed, in addition to repairs of interior damage from leaks. Grant funds will also help offset the cost of repairing the roof, masonry façade, and interior damage of Building ST, according to Brown.
“The continued support of the Cannon Charitable Trust is greatly appreciated,” said Melanie Jones, the executive director of the York Technical College Foundation. “Their generous support has enabled the Foundation to make tremendous improvements to our learning environment and campus safety. These renovations and enhancements positively impact the success of our students and the mission of the College.”
In addition to the grant from the Cannon Charitable Trust, the College will utilize money from Capital Maintenance Funds allocated by York County in order to make the upgrades. Construction is expected to begin in August and is projected to be completed in December, weather permitting.
This is the third grant the Foundation has received from Cannon Charitable Trust. Previous grants helped to renovate the original corridor of Building C, the oldest building on the main campus, and provided funds to enhance and expand the campus security camera systems.
The York Technical College Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to student success, partnerships, programming,
