Departmental Proficiency Exams
York Technical College provide proficiency examinations to allow students to earn
credit for a college course by successfully passing a comprehensive exam covering
its material. A strong understanding of the subject matter is essential to ensure
the student is fully prepared for success in the next-level course as concepts may
build upon prior knowledge and assume a solid academic foundation. All proficiency
examinations require an exam fee and students must adhere to the requirements set
forth by the institution.
Knowledge and skills acquired through prior experiences may be verified by successfully completing a local examination or skill demonstration. To assist in the process, students should complete the following steps:
- Before requesting a proficiency examination, review the Proficiency Exam Equivalencies list to confirm that the examination you wish to take is available.
- Complete the Credit for Prior Learning Application and select "Departmental Proficiency Examination."
- After you submit your Credit for Prior Learning Application, the appropriate YTC department will contact you to discuss your request, confirm your eligibility, and determine a suitable date and time for the proficiency examination.
- An $80.00 examination fee must be paid to the Cashier’s Office before the proficiency examination can be scheduled.
