York Technical College opened in 1964 as the York County Technical Education Center (TEC). The first class consisted of 60 students enrolled in seven programs, all housed in one building. In 1974, York TEC became York Technical College.

Over the past 50 years, the College has grown from that initial enrollment to more than 5,819 students annually enrolled in 108 credit programs. The College campus has also grown from one building to 15.

In addition to offering academic programs, the College provides continuing education for approximately 9,000 area residents and numerous businesses. This translates to over 256,000 contact hours of continuing education.
