A person must live in South Carolina for 12 consecutive months, under most circumstances, before residency can be established. However, you may still be selected for verification even if you have resided in South Carolina for 12 consecutive months depending on the circumstances.
Failure to obtain a South Carolina driver’s license within 45 days of establishment
of intent to become a
South Carolina resident will delay the beginning date of residency eligibility.
Registered students with an undetermined South Carolina resident status at the start
of classes will be
required to make payment arrangements at an out-of-state rate to avoid class cancellation.
Therefore,
applicants are encouraged to submit residency documentation in advance before classes
start and
payment deadlines for registered classes.
Residency classification is determined at the time of admission to the institution.
Should a residency classification require a re-review for the purposes of determining
tuition and fees for out-of -state classification or York County service area changes,
a Residency Certification application will be required along with supporting documentation.
A Student Information Update form will also be required for any
address changes.
Currently enrolled students applying for verification of their residency classification
must complete the required residency application and supply ALL supporting documentation
1 week prior to the start of the term of enrollment. Failure to submit documentation by the established deadline will result in delayed
processing or could require a new application submission for the following semester.
A decision will be rendered, and a notification sent out up to 2 weeks after the application has been received and all applicable documents have been reviewed and verified by the Residency Coordinator.
York Technical College students determined as a non-resident and denied classification
as a resident of
South Carolina have the right to appeal. Appeal instructions are communicated in the
final email notification if the residency classification is denied.
