York Technical College Strengthens Partnership with Local School District

York Technical College has expanded its alliance with the Rock Hill School District to offer dual enrollment criminal justice courses to students in order to help them get an early start with a career in law enforcement.

Beginning this fall, high school students will be able to take courses in criminal law, police patrol, and police community relations, in addition to an introductory course already being offered by the district.

“The Rock Hill School District is doing great work to help meet workforce needs while creating new opportunities for our young people,” said John McGill, Associate Dean for Educational Partnerships at York Technical College. “The district providing an early start with York Tech’s law enforcement major is another great example of how both educational entities are helping to prepare students for the future.”

Students in the Rock Hill School District may begin to take dual enrollment courses during their junior or senior year before transferring to York Technical College and completing their studies to earn the Law Enforcement Certificate. The law enforcement certificate helps lead to public service careers that include police or patrol officer, sheriff’s deputy, state trooper, state transport officer, corrections or detention officer, private security officer and telecommunications dispatcher.

Dual enrollment allows high school students to get a head start on beginning their college education or career. Students who are enrolled in dual enrollment have access to all of the support services that are offered by the College.

York Technical College and Rock Hill School District 3 also offer dual enrollment opportunities in nursing care, basic welding, and digital arts through its partnership.
