York Technical College's Continuing Education Division Receives Program of the Year Award
York Technical College received the 2018 Outstanding Continuing Education Program of the Year award, presented by the South Carolina Association for Higher Continuing Education (SCAHCE) during its annual conference held at College of Charleston on October 5. The award was presented in recognition of the College’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program for its outstanding work in meeting workforce needs, leveraging partnerships, and using innovation in the classroom to enhance student opportunities and outcomes.
The award was received by Andrela Riley, program manager for health and human service in the College’s Corporate and Continuing Education division. “Receiving the Program of the Year award from SCAHCE is truly an honor. This award clearly indicates the quality and success of the EMT Basic program,” expressed Riley. “The success of this program is due to the participants of the First Responder Town Hall and superb instructors. This award has enabled us to move forward and further respond to the needs of our community by offering a new paramedic program beginning in fall 2019.”
The Program of the Year award is designed to recognize programs that focus on excellence, diversity, cooperation, and innovation. Nominations are evaluated on exceeding program standards, quality of program, community and industry value, evidence of success, and program creativity. In addition to the Program of the Year Award, SCAHCE annually presents five other awards to nominated organizations at the annual conference. These awards include: SCAHCE Outstanding Continuing Education Professional, Outstanding Continuing Education Cooperative Program, Outstanding Continuing Education Instructor, Outstanding Continuing Education Support Staff, and the John J. Duffy Scholarship.
Established in 1977 by continuing educators representing various institutions of higher
education within the state, the SCAHCE strives to promote continuing education within
South Carolina and respond to the needs of educators and administrators of continuing
education in order to better serve students and other consumers of continuing education
programs. Since its inception, the organization has grown to include representation
from more than 40 public and private entities. The current president of the association
is the College’s very own, Donna Lawrence, program director for corporate and continuing
education.
