York Technical College is pleased to announce the launch of Reconnect with York Tech, a special program designed to help former students complete their college degrees. Students who have never finished their program at York Technical College will now have the opportunity to re-enroll and receive financial support to graduate.

Inspired by a model in Tennessee, Reconnect with York Tech is focused on ensuring adult college completion. “The Tennessee model motivated us to design our own program that provides the access and support working adults need to complete their studies, and ultimately impact their economic mobility as citizens,” expressed Monique Perry, the College’s Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management. “We want all former students who didn’t finish to know it’s never too late to come back and re-enroll at York Tech.”

Reconnect with York Tech is designed for students to return to York Technical College and complete a college credential in one year or less. Select programs, both credit and non-credit options, have been identified for this effort.  Additionally, program participants may choose to restart their former major if the program can be completed within a year. The College will review any additional college credit or workforce experience that may apply to a student’s re-enrollment. The program has several other requirements for students who re-enroll, including a commitment to completing their studies each semester with a minimum 2.0 grade point average and taking advantage of services to support their success as working adults returning to college.

As an added benefit of the program, special funding has been designated for Reconnect with York Tech so that returning students have minimal costs to complete their studies. After any applicable federal or state financial assistance is awarded, students will receive a Reconnect grant to cover the remaining costs of tuition and educational fees of eligible programs. Additional funding opportunities may also be available to eligible students to assist with textbooks.

“I am excited that our focused work in support of student retention and completion provides a great platform for this new program. Former students will find new innovations such as flexible scheduling, shorter class terms, supplemental instruction, accelerated pathways, and focused advising to support their success,” shared Greg Rutherford, President of York Technical College. “At York Tech, we are committed to all students receiving individualized support designed for their success no matter their background or life circumstances,” added Rutherford.

A dedicated team has been assembled to support this effort. In addition to several telephone campaigns to former students, the College will host multiple information and registration events to ensure a smooth restart for Reconnect with York Tech students, who in some cases left the College a decade ago or more.
