Veteran Connectivity Initiative Earns National Recognition
In June, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) announced the recipients of the 2024 Circle of Excellence Awards.
York Technical College’s entry: Uniting Heroes: Championing a Veteran Affinity Group earned silver at this year’s awards. The Veteran Affinity Group was formed in response to the growing need for support and community among Veterans within our institution. Through a collaborative effort involving alumni, students, and college employees, the group was born with the aim of fostering a sense of belonging, providing resources, and creating opportunities for growth and connection.
CASE’s Circle of Excellence Awards are the premier recognition program for educational advancement. These peer-selected and adjudicated awards celebrate colleges, universities, and schools worldwide whose talented staff have advanced their institutions with resourcefulness and ingenuity.
"We take pride in our commitment to our military and Veteran population of students, alumni, faculty, and staff," said John Cioni, Advancement Services Manager, Veteran, and Co-founder of the Veteran Affinity Group. "Earlier this year, we had the honor of receiving the Silver Grade Award from the South Carolina Department of Veteran's Affairs for creating the Veteran Affinity Group, establishing a Veteran exclusive lounge on campus, and organizing a series of events designed connect the military and Veteran population. The recognitions are amazing, but this is only the beginning of what we have planned."
