York Technical College Hosts Spring Apprenticeship Signing Day
On April 26th, 2023, ten companies visited York Technical College for the biannual Apprenticeship Signing Day in the Learning Commons.
In just one year, the Apprenticeship Program at York Technical College has nearly doubled in growth, with over 32 new apprenticeships established since January of 2022. Through the Apprenticeship Program, students receive real-world experience in their respective field of study. What makes the apprenticeship program different from an internship is that students are paid and treated as employees, while receiving mentorship and hands-on training from professionals. In almost all cases, students who successfully complete the program are hired upon graduation.
The Apprenticeship Program supports the region’s industries by providing qualified, skilled workers during a time when many companies struggle with labor shortages. In return, students have jobs lined up at some of our area’s top companies upon graduation.
Ten sponsoring companies, including Schaeffler, the City of Rock Hill, the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, and more visited the Learning Commons to support the 28 new apprentices we have this spring. The apprentices will work in fields such as healthcare, industrial and engineering technology, and more.
President of the South Carolina Technical College System Dr. Tim Hardee was also present to speak at the event.
York Technical College currently boasts over 50 apprenticeship opportunities across 40 unique occupations. Apprenticeships offer jobs in Health and Human Services, Industrial and Engineering Technologies, and Business, Computers, Arts, and Sciences. These apprenticeships include full-time and part-time opportunities.
