Dr. V. Keith Wilks Named to York Tech's Commission

Wilks currently serves as executive director of student services for Rock Hill School
District 3. In this role, he supervises the student discipline programs and oversees
the district’s guidance counselors and school nurses. He also manages the Renaissance
Academy and the Raven Program, both alternative education programs within the Flexible
Learning Centers.
“I consider this an honor and a privilege to serve our community as a member of the York Commission for Technical Education. I believe my nearly 27 years of service in public schools will add a different perspective to this already successful group of community supporters. I look forward to working to help improve educational, training and work opportunities for the communities we serve in and around York, Chester and Lancaster counties,” said Wilks.
With nearly 30-years of experience in education, Wilks has held numerous administration positions in South Carolina public schools. From 1997 to 2002, he was employed at Rock Hill High School as assistant principal. He then served as principal at Darlington High School in Darlington, South Carolina for three years before returning to Rock Hill School District 3, where he became assistant principal at Sullivan Middle School. He began his tenure with the district as an eighth-grade mathematics teacher at Rawlinson Road Middle School in 1991.
Active in the community, Wilks provides leadership for several civic and community organizations. He was elected as treasurer for the National Association of Pupil Services Administrators Organization, and formerly served as a trustee for the association. He is also a board member for the All on Board Community Alliance, a student support group with affiliations in all York County middle and high schools.
“We are pleased that Dr. Keith Wilks is joining the York Technical College Commission. His caliber of leadership, service to the community and advocacy for education will make him an invaluable asset to the commission,” said Charles Z. Robinson, chairman of the Commission.
Wilks earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Gardner-Webb University. He holds a master’s degree in secondary level administration and supervision and a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics with a minor in secondary education, both from Winthrop University.
The York Commission for Technical Education is comprised of 11 commissioners, who each serve a four-year term. They are appointed by the governor upon a recommendation of their respective legislative delegations. As the governing body of the College, the Commission evaluates the institution’s mission, ensures its financial stability and develops policies that make sure the College remains compliant with state, federal and local laws, polices regulations, rules and guidelines.
