The York Technical College Foundation Inc., has created an Emergency Assistance Fund to proactively aid current York Technical College students who have incurred unavoidable or unexpected financial hardships.

The Emergency Assistance Fund will provide financial support to students that will allow them to complete their studies at York Tech without interruption. Students may apply for the funds once they have exhausted all other resources.

Melanie E. Jones, Executive Director of the York Technical College Foundation, said the Foundation stepped up in response to the current crisis surrounding COVID-19, and the Emergency Assistance Fund continues to build upon the Foundation's long history of supporting student success.

“We are thrilled to add the Emergency Assistance Fund to the list of programs and resources designated to support student success at York Tech. Although the Foundation has provided this type of assistance before, it was typically limited to individual requests made by student support services staff who contacted the Foundation on behalf of a student," said Jones. "Now, we have an established process for any student to ask for assistance directly and to know that there are resources available to help them continue their program, even when times get hard."

Students may apply for Emergency Assistance Funds once per academic year and receive an award of up to $500. Priority consideration will be given to students who require life essentials such as emergency or temporary housing, prescription medication, medical or mental health care, and childcare expenses. Funds may also be used to replace essential personal belongings due to fire or natural disaster, purchase educational supplies that are essential for academic success, among other reasons

"We appreciate the York Technical College Foundation for recognizing a need among students and for taking steps to provide this critical resource," said Stacey Moore, the College's Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. "We are devoted to serving all students, and now we have a way to support those who have an unplanned hardship so they can continue to focus on completing their education."

Alumni and community members are encouraged to support this effort. To contribute to the Emergency Assistance Fund, click here.

"I understand that these are trying times for many, but please know that a donation in any amount greatly helps us," added Jones. “We are indeed grateful for any gifts made to York Technical College Foundation's Emergency Assistance Fund."
