Earn Tax Credit for Tuition in South Carolina

To help ease the financial burden for South Carolina college students and their families, the South Carolina General Assembly has created an income tax credit for tuition paid to South Carolina colleges and universities. To claim the credit, you must fill out the SC 1040 Form. When preparing the South Carolina income tax return, Form I-319 Tuition Tax Credit must be completed. This form is included with all state individual income tax booklets. For more information about the tax credit, please visit the South Carolina Tuition Tax Credit website.

If you meet the qualifications, you may be able to claim up to $1,500 in tuition credit.

Getting Started

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available online from the U.S. Department of Education beginning October 1st of each year. The FAFSA website will ask questions about your family’s income and assets to determine an Expected Family Contribution, or EFC. York Tech then compares your family’s EFC with the total cost to attend to determine the amount of your Financial Aid package. The program then attempts to fill all or part of the gap between your family’s EFC and the total cost.

You need to complete the FAFSA and apply for aid only once each school year. Be sure to use York Technical College's FAFSA Code when applying. The FAFSA Code for York Technical College is 003996.

Enrolled at York Tech? To ensure a smooth start to your semester, it's important to fill out your FAFSA and other financial aid forms as soon as possible. Financial aid awards should be accepted before the payment deadline for each semester. If you're still missing financial aid awards by the deadline, you will be responsible for the fees. Payment plan options are also available.
