    Reconnect with York Tech: Come Back For Your Future! 

    We know it’s been a while since you started – and stopped – your program at York Technical College, but your credits are still here, just waiting for you, and so are we. In fact, we’ve designed a special program especially for former students who now understand the importance that a college credential can play when it comes to career and life success. The good news is it’s never too late to finish what you started. With Reconnect with York Tech, it’s never been easier! 

    About Reconnect with York Tech

    Reconnect with York Tech is a program focused on assisting former York Technical College students who did not complete their program, return to York Tech and complete a credential to advance their career, earn higher wages, or start in a new industry. Students interested in Reconnect with York Tech can apply and re-enroll in their former program at YTC (if eligible) or choose from credit and non-credit career, transfer and technical credentials (certificate, diploma, degree) that can be completed in 12-15 months. Students are able to enroll in online, hybrid or traditional classes at any York Tech campus.

    Students will receive a tuition grant (after federal and state aid has been awarded) to support their re-entry into the College as long as they meet program requirements. They will also receive personalized service and support throughout the re-enrollment process.

    Eligibility Requirements

    Reconnect with York Tech is open to former students of York Technical College who meet the following requirements:

    • Must be a resident of York, Chester, or Lancaster Counties (South Carolina)
    • Must be a former/inactive student, and not have attended York Technical College in the past two semesters
    • Must complete the FAFSA process (to include submitting all required documents)
    • Be eligible for the State of SC Lottery Tuition Assistance Program
    • Must not have previously earned an associates degree or higher (and if so, may be eligible for a certificate program only) 
    • Must not be in default on a student loan program (for credit courses only)
    • Must not be ineligible to return to York Technical College due to disciplinary reasons 
    • Must be able to enroll at least part time with a minimum of 6 credit hours and stay continuously enrolled and maintain 6 credit hours 
    • Must complete program within 12 months of start
    • Must complete the Reconnect with York Tech admissions application and Student Commitment Form
    • Must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher 
    • Must complete all scheduled classes (no withdrawals unless approved by Counseling and Support Services)
    • Must begin classes in summer or fall 2019 terms

  • Frequently Asked Questions

    What if I attended another institution, but didn’t finish - am I eligible?
    Students are eligible to participate in Reconnect with York Tech program if they have not completed a credential at York Technical College or any other institution. York Tech will award credit for courses that may count towards eligible programs.
     
    How do I stay in the Reconnect with York Tech Program?

    To maintain participation in the Reconnect with York Tech program, students must:

    • Remain continuously enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (including summer) and will be auto-enrolled into future terms;
    • Maintain minimum GPA and attendance requirements (no withdrawals or drops from classes);
    • Must complete the FAFSA process.


    Are there any income requirements or limits to participate in YTC Reconnect?

    There are no income requirements, but program participants must complete the FAFSA process and meet the eligibility of the state of South Carolina’s Lottery Tuition Assistance program,, even if they assume they are not eligible. If a student qualifies for state or federal aid, those funds will be applied prior to Reconnect with York Tech scholarship funds. 

    How much financial assistance is eligible for Reconnect with York Tech program participants?
    Reconnect with York Tech students will receive a Reconnect Grant to cover tuition (after all federal and state aid is applied). Additional scholarship opportunities for textbooks may be available to eligible students.  

    Will exceptions be made for students who do not maintain continuous enrollment? 

    Students who have an approved medical or personal leave of absence may continue eligibility while the program is in place if their change of schedule or withdrawal is approved via the Dean of Students Office. A student would be required to meet with the Counseling and Support services team, and in many cases may be required to submit documentation. That team will recommend whether one-time special circumstances exception should be granted. This is not guaranteed.

    How do I check the status of my Reconnect with York Tech application?

    What if I am interested in returning to York Tech, but I’m interested in a major not included in the Reconnect with York Tech program?
    Students who are not interested in an approved program are still eligible to apply for re-enrollment as a readmitted student and can complete the financial aid process for assistance. You will still be eligible to apply for federal or state aid; Reconnect with York Tech participants will receive additional funding beyond the standard requirements. 

    What is a Reconnect with York Tech Success Plan? 
    The Success Plan will allow the College to determine the support resources that will help students successfully complete eligible programs. These resources include counseling, academic coaching and more – all of which are included in the program (no extra fee required). We will ask you quick questions as part of the process.

    What if I need assistance completing the admissions application or FAFSA?

    What if I have been suspended or deemed ineligible for financial aid at York Tech?   
    Depending on the situation, students may be able to submit an, but the College will review this on a case by case basis and provide the best options to return to York Tech. Suspension will not necessarily prevent participation in the program, and you still may receive funds. We encourage you to apply and we will provide your options for success.
