Apprentices in the Commercial Driver's License program will apply classroom knowledge, state and federal laws, and specialized road training to earn a Commercial Driver's License. Participants will apply those skills in a variety of occupations from city and state jobs to commercial and private business opportunities. Upon completion of the program, participants will earn the outlined educational certificate or degree, along with any industry credentials and Department of Labor Certificate. Participants will gain mentored skills training along with networking soft skills for a solid resume of education and experience.

Job Responsibilities
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
- Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting dangerous goods and ensure cargo is secure
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
- Drive trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations
- Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
- Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes in compliance with state regulations.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid or performing minor repairs
- Maintain logs of working hours of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations
- Read maps and plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using various approved computer equipment
- Load or unload trucks using special loading-related equipment or other equipment as necessary
- Perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, tire chains, or spark plugs
- Give directions to laborers who are packing goods and moving them onto trailers
