York Technical College Foundation and Winthrop Sign Guided Transfer Partnership Agreement
Winthrop University and York Technical College established the Guided Transfer Partnership Agreement on Friday, June 24. The agreement allows York Tech graduates to transfer seamlessly to Winthrop University.
The Guided Transfer Partnership Agreement is an agreement between Winthrop University and York Tech, providing a distinct pathway for specific York Tech programs to Winthrop majors.
York Tech and Winthrop now have Meta-Majors that consist of courses that both meet general education requirements and fulfill all of Winthrop’s baccalaureate degree requirements. This is an excellent achievement for York Tech. “The Guided Transfer Partnership Agreement gives students the best of York Tech and Winthrop with high-quality York Tech instructors preparing students for success and saving families tens of thousands of dollars on a bachelor’s degree,” said John McGill, Associate Dean of Educational Partnerships.
In preparation for this partnership, everything was taken into consideration for York Tech students. McGill said, “York Tech and Winthrop teams worked closely together and will continue to do so for a common goal: to ensure Winthrop-bound students will always have a smooth transfer experience with personalized advisors at York Tech and Winthrop, that includes access to the services and facilities at both institutions, supporting student success and an exceptional, affordable college experience.”
York Tech’s Associate Dean of Academic Support Services Cassandra Verardi stated, “By coming together, more students wishing to transfer can start their journey at York Tech and have confidence that their classes will transfer and that both institutions will support them; in reaching their academic & career goals.”
The requirements for all AA/AS degrees include at least 60 credits of degree-level coursework, 6 hours of composition or writing-intensive course work, and meeting the South Carolina State Founding Document Requirement. York Tech graduates can transfer a maximum of 65 credits to Winthrop, thus providing opportunities to all qualifying York Tech students.
Winthrop has agreed to accept all York Tech students into any baccalaureate degree programs. York Tech students wanting to transfer into Winthrop must obtain a GPA of at least 2.0. Students who are admitted into Winthrop will be considered Juniors—giving students a flowing foundation for academic success.
