York Tech Identifies Confirmed Case of TB
Dear York Technical College community,
It has come to our attention from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) that someone who was recently on the College campus is a confirmed case of Tuberculosis (TB) disease.
DHEC health professionals are conducting a thorough investigation, which includes a site assessment and identifying close contacts. DHEC will be reaching out to people who need to be screened and tested for TB.
Students, faculty and staff have received, from DHEC, a separate letter and TB information sheet. We know there may be additional questions, so we’ve invited a TB expert to speak at a forum for the York Technical College community. Members of our community are invited to learn more about TB and DHEC’s response from Dr. Alexander Milgrom, the Midlands TB Program Medical Clinician for DHEC. The York Technical College community forum will be held on Monday, March 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the Baxter Hood Center.
Please be aware that, due to federal and state privacy laws, the College is prohibited from revealing who tested positive for active tuberculosis. For anyone who may be aware of the identity of such a person, please be considerate of the person’s privacy and refrain from disclosing that information to others.
DHEC has opened a CareLine to address your concerns and questions regarding TB. Please call 1-855-472-3432 from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. or email TBControl@dhec.sc.gov. If you have any concerns about your health, we encourage you to contact your primary care provider.
We take the health and safety of our York Technical College community very seriously. Thank you for your partnership and patience during this time.
