Academic Advising
Academic advising at York Technical College is a shared relationship between you and your advisor that will help you have a successful experience at the college. Your academic advisor will assist you in developing and adapting an educational plan that matches your life goals from the time you are accepted into a program, through graduation.
The Academic & Career Advising Center integrates academic advising with a strong career development focus. It serves as a centralized area to provide support and clear direction to students transitioning from one program to another. Visit the Advising Center for career counseling, program changes, and general assistance related to your academic success.
You should meet with your academic advisor each semester. Find the name and contact information for your academic advisor by logging into Navigate and clicking on the “Resources” icon > People
The College Catalog is the official source of information on academic programs at York Technical College. Please refer to the Catalog for the year in which you were admitted to the College.
Before meeting with your academic advisor, we recommend that you read the Advising Syllabus. Please review the Degree Requirements & Completion Plan for your program of study. Having this document with you during your appointment will ensure that you are registering for the right courses and continuing on the right path to completion of your program.
Your program evaluation shows your GPA, courses you've completed, what you have left to graduate, and your course options. This is your go-to guide for advising and planning your registration. You can also use this tool to see how your credits apply to other majors.
York Technical College uses EdReady to help determine a student’s educational needs. EdReady is a placement method that helps with placing you into the appropriate Math and/or English course.
Complete the EdReady assessment in the designated subject. Once completed, your score will be reviewed and you will be placed into the appropriate Math and/or English.
Login into D2L and Self Register for the placement course. Additional guidance may be found by accessing Self Registration in D2L courses.

Since changing your major can extend your time to complete a credential or impact your financial aid, you must first meet with a professional advisor in the Academic & Career Advising Center.
The advisor will help you see how your credits apply to your new major and do an initial review of any financial aid implications.
If you want to change your major, all you need to do is meet with an Advising Center team member during business hours or by making an appointment in Navigate.
If you are changing to a certificate or degree in the same program, you can email academicadvising@yorktech.edu to request your major to be changed.
