Transferring to YTC
York Technical College welcomes incoming transfer students! We award credit for satisfactory
completion of courses from other technical colleges, technical institutes, or accredited
colleges. Applicants who wish to transfer credits from other schools must provide
an official transcript. York Tech analyzes credits accepted for transfer in terms
of level, content, quality, comparability, and degree-program relevance. All applicants
are asked to submit a copy of their official high school transcripts or official GED
score reports. This information is used for admission, financial aid, scholarships,
academic advisement, and other purposes to include:
- Life Scholarship or other types of financial aid eligibility
- Admission into a program of study in the Health and Human Services Division

Submit Transcripts for Review
You may submit transcripts in one of three ways:

Steps to Transfer to York Tech:
- Apply for admission: Complete the Transfer Student application.
- Submit high school transcript: Contact your high school to send us a copy of your transcript showing graduation
date (preferred and required to receive financial aid)
- Submit official college transcripts: Contact each institution you attended to request official copies of transcripts to
be sent to York Technical College.
- If your transcripts do not reflect appropriate coursework in English and Math you
may be required to submit SAT or ACT scores or take the Accuplacer placement test.
- Receive acceptance notification: Once your application and transcripts are reviewed, you will be notified of your acceptance,
which will also let you know if there is any information still required for you to
be admitted.
- Register for classes: After you have received your acceptance letter, you will receive a notification to
review your Academic Plan in Navigate to help you prepare and register for the right
classes. Your Enrollment Counselor may also reach out to you directly for an appointment.

Transcript Tips
- Submit an official copy of your high school transcript: contact your high school to
send us a copy of your transcript showing graduation date (preferred and required
to receive financial aid).
- Submit official (sealed and unopened) college transcripts from all colleges attended.
- Contact each institution you attended to request the official transcript.

Transfer Credit Policy
- York Tech will award applicable credits from each institution for which we have an
official transcript
- To receive credit, you must have completed the course with a grade of C or better.
- For more information on credit eligibility for institutions in SC, visit SCTRAC.org
- Transfer credit will not be included in the computation of the student’s grade point
average at York Technical College.
- York Technical College accepts qualifying transfer credit when the College offers
a comparable course that is required or approved as an elective in the program of
study.
- Courses transferred into a program must have equivalent or greater credits than the
York Technical College course.
- Credits transferred from other institutions and applied to the program may not exceed
75 percent of the total credits required by York Technical College for graduation-Courses
accepted for transfer will be assigned a grade of “TR” and will not be calculated
in the grade point average (GPA).
TRANSCRIPT REVIEW PROCESS
- Your transcript will be reviewed for the following:
- Applicable courses to your program of study
- College-level English and Math with a GPA of 2.0 or above, or a grade of C or better
- York Tech will reward credit for all courses that meet the above requirements
- Transfer students are not required to take the placement test if valid transfer credits
are awarded in English and math.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How many credits can I transfer to York Tech?
There is no limit on how many credits the student can transfer to York Tech; however,
at least 25 percent of semester credit hours required for program completion must
be earned through instruction at York Technical College.
How long will it take to review my transcripts?
The transcript review process can take approximately 3 – 5 business days.
Are there time limits on courses?
No. However, for students who plan to go into a Health and Human Services Program,
some courses will have to be reviewed by the academic department.
Do I have to take the placement test or submit test scores?
Transfer students are not required to take the placement test if valid transfer credits
are awarded in English and math.
What if I have attended an institution in another country?
If you have an international transcript, please have it reviewed by an approved translation
and academic agency such as World Education Services (WES).
What if I have military experience?
Students can send in a Joint Services Transcript (JST) through American Council on
Education (ACE) to learn if course credit can be awarded.
