Professional Licensure and Certification

Programs at York Technical College are designed to meet South Carolina requirements for licensure or certification. Professional licensure and certification requirements vary widely across states and U.S. territories. The curriculum of a given program may fully meet, partially meet, or may not meet the educational requirements for licensure/certification outside of South Carolina. The College works to determine whether programs meet the educational requirements for licensure or certification outside of South Carolina and provides this information in program licensure disclosures. Students who are considering a program that traditionally leads to licensure or certification are strongly encouraged to review the licensure disclosures provided by YTC, below, and contact the appropriate state/territory agency to seek additional information and guidance before enrolling in such a program.

Licensure Disclosures

In July 2020, the U.S. Department of Education implemented a new regulation (34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v)) which requires colleges to provide the information below related to programs of study leading to professional licensure or certification:

  • A list of states/territories where the institutions curriculum meets or does not meet the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in a given state or territory; and
  • A list of states/territories where the institution has not made a determination if the curriculum meets the educational requirements.

In compliance with the U.S. Department of Education and requirements for participation in NC-SARA, York Technical College provides information pertaining to professional licensure and certification for programs offered by YTC that may lead to state licensure/certification.

Potential Changes in Licensure/Certification Requirements

Program licensure disclosures are reviewed and updated regularly. Students who intend to pursue licensure or certification outside of South Carolina should be aware that state/territory licensure requirements are subject to change at any time. While a program may originally meet the educational requirements for licensure in a state or territory, any changes in these requirements may result in the program no longer meeting such requirements. Students are highly encouraged to check with the appropriate state/territory licensure agency to confirm requirements.
