High-demand career areas have a higher occupational outlook over the next decade and show significant job growth.

Healthcare
Healthcare occupations have a projected 15 percent growth rate through 2029, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The median annual wage for healthcare practitioners and technical occupations (such as registered nurses, athletic trainers, radiologic technologists and dental hygienists) was $68,190 in May 2019, which was higher than the median annual wage for all occupations in the economy (which was $39,810).

Information Technology
Careers in information and information technology grew by 5 percent, while many others declined by approximately 6 percent. Nationally, employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 11 percent through 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to BLS. The median annual wage for computer and information technology occupations was $88,240 in May 2019.

Manufacturing
In South Carolina, manufacturing occupations grew by a little less than 1 percent over the past year and the growth was in the demand for highly skilled technicians, such as those in industrial maintenance and mechatronics.

Construction
The construction industry employment rate has been trending upward for the last ten years. According to BLS, the number of construction jobs is expected to increase from 7.2 million in 2018 to 7.5 million by 2026. Growth is heavy among civil engineering construction, with an estimated 39 percent.  Equipment operators, heavy and tractor trailer truck drivers, and electrical power line installers and repairers top the list of positions with the highest expected growth.
