GED by 2023 is an initiative through the SC Department of Education Adult Education Office designed to increase the number of GED completions by the year 2023. Through a partnership with the SC Technical College System, individuals who complete a GED or high school diploma through a SC Adult Education office are eligible to receive funds to cover the tuition and fees costs to attend a SC technical college.

Eligibility

Eligible students must meet the following criteria:

  • Complete a high school diploma or GED through one of the 52 South Carolina State supported Adult Education programs between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2023
    OR
  • Complete two sections of the GED and are part of an integrated education and training career pathway at the Adult Education programs between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2023


Note: If you earned your GED or high school diploma before July 1, 2022, complete the steps for the no-cost funding initiative at
www.yorktech.edu/no-cost.

What’s Included

Eligible expenditures include:

  • Tuition and associated fees for credit and non-credit training programs.


Associated fees that are included are:

  • Lab fees
  • Program fees
  • Technology fees

 

*There is no maximum award amount for eligible students. Award amounts should not exceed the total costs of tuition and fees.

  1. Complete the Admissions Application
    • If you have completed your GED or high school diploma, complete the First-time Freshmen Admissions Create Account and Application at www.yorktech.edu/apply
    • If you are currently enrolled in the GED program, complete the Dual Enrollment Admissions Create Account and Application at www.yorktech.edu/apply
  2. Request your official GED transcript
  3. Schedule to take the placement test assessmentcenter@yorktech.edu
  4. Complete the 2021-22 FAFSA, if you plan to enroll in the Summer 2022 start session
  5. Complete the 2022-23 FAFSA, if you plan to enroll in the Fall 2022 start session

  1. Create a user account and profile at https://yorktech.augusoft.net/.  If you already have an account from a previous class, there is no need to create a new account.
  2. View the course catalog at https://yorktech.augusoft.net/ to check dates and times of the courses available.

Programs must be completed in a year or less as funds to support GED by 2023 are only available through September 30, 2024.

Do I need to complete the FAFSA to qualify?

No, you do not. However, we strongly encourage you to complete the FAFSA for academic credit programs to determine if you will be eligible for additional funds. 

*There is no maximum award amount for eligible students. Award amounts will not exceed the total costs of tuition and fees.

How do I keep receiving my funding?

  • Students must maintain appropriate academic standing (no academic probation or suspension) for continuation in program and to receive funds.
  • Complete program within 1 year or less.


Can I take more than one program?

Yes, if completion of both programs is within 1 year and if both programs are directly related.
