York Tech Breaks Ground and Unveils Commemorative Logo at 50th Anniversary Celebration Launch

ROCK HILL, SC  This morning, community members, students, faculty and staff gathered as York Technical College announced its 50th Anniversary Celebration and future plans.

The ceremony took place in front of the first building ever constructed at York Tech on June 30, 1964 (C Building ) which will be receiving a major facelift within the next year. This projected six month project, estimated as a $2.8 million expansion and renovation, is only a taste of what’s to come for York Tech.

“This is a time to honor the past, transcend the present, and claim the future,” said VP of College Advancement Melanie Jones. “We are extremely excited to be celebrating 50 years of providing quality service to our community.”

Jones went on to introduce Honorary Chair Tony Vaughan, Former Commissioner Clarence Hornsby and Student Ambassador Kimberly Andrews. Each outlined their experience with York Tech and how the College has helped to not only shape their lives, but how it has also impacted technological advancements, economic development and thousands of lives in York, Chester and Lancaster Counties.

The ceremony came to a closing with remarks from President Greg F. Rutherford and the unveiling of the 50th Anniversary commemorative logo and signature events. Once the logo was unveiled, commissioners, architects, contractors, York Technical College Foundation President, and several others joined Dr. Rutherford for the groundbreaking of C Building. This moving of land symbolized the growth to come in York Tech’s future.

"This is only the beginning," said Dr. Rutherford. "York Technical College has many more years to continue to build this community through maximizing student success."
